rubik's cake

Remember this amazing cake? Krissy of Paper Schmaper baked one for her husband's birthday way back on the 10th ...& it turned out marvelously! I'm so jealous!

hello dears

There may be more posts coming later in the week but for today, I'm just dropping by to say hello.
Here's another cute baby video to accompany all the others & keep you going on a possibly dreary Monday.

happy fourth!

I was inspired by the summery photos here & here so I did a little search for one of my own & this set is what I came up with. The pictures are all so lovely! I was definitely born in the wrong era. I picked this photo for my celebratory post because the girls are appropriately red, white, & blue (& oh, those expressions!)...but these girls stole my heart, too.

I hope you all a wonderful the weekend & some fireworks! This will be my last post for some time. Hopefully I'll be able to drop in from time to time, but I'm off to camp for the next 5 weeks. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

happy birthday, emma!

Happy Golden Birthday to my favorite little girl!
Today is my sisters 4th birthday.
It has been so fun watching her grow.

She is quite a character (she gets that from her sister). I love her to death.

Bah! It's been a while since I've posted any silly videos & this one is too cute. Baby animals are my weakness.

happy birthday, mom!

my mom & baby sister emma

I hope you have a marvelous birthday, mom!
You deserve it...psst, thanks for all your help this week!
I couldn't have done it all without you.

weddings on my mind

I just love this print from etsy shop kitschy hippo.

I want to hang it in our kitchen just as soon as we're married. Yes, that's right...I'm engaged! I've been bursting to make this announcement but I waited until all of our closest friends & family learned in person & really, I've just needed a week to process it all.

Jason proposed last Tuesday & I am beyond excited! - but still a little shocked.
He was very adorable & romantic...& oh so sneaky about it, too!
Here's the story:
He proposed via vintage typewriter - what better way for one English major to propose to another?
We had been looking at lovely Valentine typewriters but after bidding (& losing) on one on ebay, Jason happened to find another beautiful, vintage typewriter in his grandfather's basement. After cleaning & fixing it up, he brought it home as a nice surprise. Oh boy was I surprised when he opened the case & there sat an envelope with my name typed across the front. In the envelope, was the beautiful engagement ring that my dad proposed to my mom with (he died when I was young, so this ring means more to me than a shiny new one ever could) & the words "marry me?" typed across the inside.
It couldn't have been more perfect.
I couldn't be happier.

Don't worry, though. We (more than likely) won't be getting married until fall of 2010, so I won't bogging you down with lots of sappy wedding stuff...just the usual quirky finds!

renewable dresses

"By placing colored felt-tip pens in the pockets of the dress its appearance changes over time. Within an hour - to one and a half hours the colored ink bleeds into the fabric and creates a one-off design for each occasion. the owner can then clean the dress and color it in a different way for each time they wear it."

I want one.
